Effective 13 October 2026

The short version: use Mothilda to actually learn, keep your account to yourself, own what you upload, and double-check what the moth tells you before it ends up in an exam.

01Agreeing to these terms

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Mothilda website, web app and any related services (together, the “Service”), operated by Mothilda (“Mothilda”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

02Who can use Mothilda

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the Service with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

If your school or teacher gave you access to Mothilda, your school may have its own agreement with us, and some of these Terms may be supplemented by it.

03Your account

  • Give us accurate information when you sign up and keep it current.
  • Keep your login details private. You’re responsible for activity on your account.
  • Tell us straight away at hello@mothilda.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
  • One person, one account. Accounts can’t be sold or transferred.

04Your study material

You can upload lecture notes, PDFs, slides, photos, audio recordings and other material (“Your Content”). You keep ownership of Your Content.

You give us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process and transform Your Content only as needed to run the Service for you — for example, to generate questions, summaries and review schedules. This licence ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for copies held in routine backups for a limited time.

You confirm that you have the right to upload Your Content. Don’t upload material you aren’t allowed to share, such as someone else’s paid course materials where the licence forbids it, or other people’s personal information without their permission.

05Acceptable use

Mothilda is for learning. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to cheat — for example, during an exam or assessment where outside help isn’t allowed. Follow your institution’s academic integrity rules.
  • Upload anything illegal, harmful, hateful, sexually explicit or harassing.
  • Infringe anyone’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights.
  • Try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users’ accounts.
  • Scrape the Service or use automated tools to access it, except through features we provide for that purpose.
  • Resell the Service or use it to build a competing product.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

06AI-generated answers

Mothilda uses artificial intelligence to ask questions, explain concepts and give feedback. AI can be wrong. Explanations may be incomplete, out of date or simply incorrect, and Mothilda can misread handwriting, audio or diagrams.

Always check important facts against your course materials, teachers and textbooks. Mothilda is a study aid, not a substitute for your instructors, and it does not give medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.

07Our property

The Service — including the Mothilda name, the moth, our software, design and text — belongs to us and our licensors and is protected by law. These Terms give you permission to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial study. They don’t give you any other rights to it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.

08Price and changes to the Service

Mothilda is currently free for students. If we introduce paid plans, we’ll tell you the price and terms before you’re charged, and nothing will be charged without your clear agreement.

We’re constantly improving Mothilda, so features may be added, changed or removed. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we’ll give you reasonable notice and a way to export your study material.

09Ending your account

You can stop using Mothilda and delete your account at any time from your settings or by emailing hello@mothilda.com.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if required by law, or if your use puts other users or the Service at risk. Where reasonable, we’ll tell you why and give you a chance to respond first.

10Disclaimers

We work hard to keep Mothilda accurate and available, but the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties — express or implied — that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that using it will lead to any particular grade or result. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law.

11Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Mothilda will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, lost opportunities or exam results, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 US dollars.

We don’t exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

12Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Mothilda after that, the new Terms apply. If you don’t agree with them, you can delete your account.

13Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Mothilda is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live in the EU or UK, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in, and you can bring claims in your local courts. Before going to court, please contact us — most problems can be sorted out with a conversation.
