01Who we are
Mothilda (“we”, “us”) provides the Mothilda study service. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. If your school gave you access to Mothilda, your school may also be a controller of your information, and its own privacy notice applies too.
02What we collect

We don’t ask for sensitive information such as health data or religious beliefs. Please avoid uploading it in your study material — and avoid uploading other people’s personal details.
03How we use it
- To create and run your account.
- To turn your study material into questions, explanations and a review schedule — the core of what Mothilda does.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent cheating and abuse, and fix problems.
- To understand which features help students and improve them.
- To send service messages, and product emails if you’ve opted in.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use your study material for advertising.
04AI processing
To generate questions and feedback, the relevant parts of your study material and answers are sent to the AI model providers we work with. They process it on our behalf under contracts that restrict them from using it for any other purpose, including training their own models.
We won’t use your uploaded material to train AI models without asking you first.
05Legal bases (Nigeria, EEA & UK)
If you’re in Nigeria, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:

07International transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than where you live, including the United States. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA or UK, we use safeguards recognised by law, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
08How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. When you delete study material, it’s removed from the Service straight away. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, apart from copies in backups, which are overwritten within a further 90 days.
Accounts inactive for more than two years may be deleted after we email you a warning. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires it.
09Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular review of our systems. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. If a breach affects your information, we’ll notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
10Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of your personal information.
- Correct information that’s inaccurate.
- Delete your information.
- Export your study material in a portable format.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent you’ve given, such as for marketing emails.
Email hello@mothilda.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Nigeria: if you’re in Nigeria, you have these rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
California residents: you have the rights to know, delete and correct your personal information, and we won’t discriminate against you for exercising them. We don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
11Children and students
Mothilda is not for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. In some countries, users under 16 need a parent’s consent to use online services — where that applies, we ask for it.
If you’re a parent and believe your child under 13 has created an account, contact hello@mothilda.com and we’ll delete it.
13Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy as Mothilda changes. If we make a significant change, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The effective date at the top always shows the latest version. See also our Terms and Conditions.
